Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Kansas State University Frank Tracz will conduct the Hillsboro High School band at their spring concert on Monday.
The concert will include performances by the Hillsboro Middle School Percussion Trio, seventh through eight grade band, high school saxophone quartet, and high school concert band.
Music performed will be from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, and styles will include march, swing, and Russian music.
Hillsboro band director Bruce Major said Tracz got invited after he attended a conference with him last year.
“The idea popped into my mind because I know he does a lot of honor bands around the world,” Major said, “so I threw the idea out and he said he’d do it.”
Tracz was originally going to conduct the band last May, but became busy.
Major said he feels good about Tracz’s visit, and the students are prepared.
“He will come do a clinic with them working on the music and working on musicianship and other things,” Major said. “It is quite an honor and a privilege to have him come work with our students.”
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Hillsboro High School Auditorium. A reception for Tracz will follow the concert in the commons area.
