The Hillsboro High School track team qualified for state in six events Friday at the Trojans regional at Garden Plain.
“That is something these young people should be proud of,” coach Dennis Boldt said.
Seniors Nathan Vogel and Dakota Kaufman qualified in multiple events.
Vogel won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 2.91 seconds and placed second in the 400, even though he ran a sub 50-second time — 49.85 — for the third time this season.
“Nathan qualified in two extremely tough races today,” Boldt said. “He is very determined to finish well in both the 400 and 800.”
Kaufman placed second in the triple jump, with a jump of 35 feet, 3.25 inches, and third in the long jump, 16-.5.
“Dakota Kaufman returns for a fourth consecutive trip to the state championships in two events,” Boldt said. “She will finish a great career in a state competition.”
Joel Allen was the only other Trojan to win an event Friday, besting his opponents in the 3200 with a time of 10:36.67. It will be his first trip to the state tournament.
Callie Serene placed second in the 800, with a time of 2:28.64, for her second trip to state in as many years of her high school track career.
The Trojans will head to the campus of Wichita State University Friday for the 3A state track meet.
