KCAC tournament begins this week for Tabor basketball

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference finished its regular season last week, setting the stage for its tournament schedule.

The Tabor women earned the tournament’s third seed after defeating the University of St. Mary 73-54 Thursday and losing 72-61 to Friends Saturday. The Lady Jays play at 6 p.m. tonight against Sterling in Hillsboro.

The men’s team also defeated St. Mary, 78-67, before losing 111-103 to Friends in overtime Saturday. The fifth-seeded Bluejays will face St. Mary again at 7 p.m. Thursday in Leavenworth.

Baseball loses first series in Oklahoma City

After a 7-1 start to its season, the Bluejay baseball team dropped two of three to the Oklahoma City University Stars in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Stars, ranked No. 5 in NAIA, defeated the Bluejays 9-4 Friday in a nine-inning game. Tabor came back to win the first of a Saturday doubleheader 11-1, but lost 8-3 in the second game.

The Bluejays play next at 1 p.m. Saturday in Kansas City, Mo., against Avila University, then at 3:30 p.m. against Grand View University. March 4 the team plays in a doubleheader with Manhattan Christian College beginning at 1 p.m.

Softball wins first home games

Bluejay softball remained undefeated Saturday in a home doubleheader with York College. The Lady Jays allowed one score in the two games, winning 9-1 and 4-0. A doubleheader Thursday against Central Christian College was postponed.

The team plays on three separate days this week, beginning with a doubleheader against Avila at 1 p.m. Friday in Kansas City, Mo., Saturday Tabor travels to Olathe for a doubleheader with MidAmerica Nazarene University, beginning at noon. The Lady Jays finish a busy week at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Wichita against Newman University.
