The Hillsboro High School softball team ran into stellar pitching this past week that limited the Lady Trojans to just seven runs and one victory in four games.
HHS was shutout once by Hesston and Nickerson, but managed a 5-2 victory against Hesston to salvage a split.
In a Friday victory against the Swathers, HHS jumped ahead 5-0 and looked like it might win by shutout. Instead, Hesston scored two in the bottom of the sixth, but Hillsboro eventually held on for a 5-2 victory.
The Trojans managed just four hits, but two of them went for extra bases. Batting in the ninth spot, Sam Bartel had a double, run scored, and an RBI.
Freshman Steph Sanders chipped in with a triple and run scored, while Shelby Koons knocked in a run with a single.
Courtney Weber pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out two. The Trojans dropped game two, 2-0.
In game one against Nickerson, the Panthers scorched Lady Trojan pitching in a 10-0 victory. HHS managed two runs in game two, but eventually fell, 8-2. Sanders chipped in with an RBI-single.
The Trojans are now 9-7 on the season, with four games left to play.
