Lake hosts chili cook-off, car show

News editor

Five bucks gets you a bowl, spoon, napkins and three hours to sample between 10-15 chilies.

The 12th annual Marion County Park and Lake chili cook-off will be 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the hall.

The lake will be a busy place Saturday with the cook-off, open class car show and corn hole pitching tournament.

“The car show starts at 10:30 a.m. and there were about 30 cars last year and we think there might be more this year,” said lake superintendent Isaac Hett.

There will be classes for cars, air-cooled engines, trucks and motorcycles.

Starting at 11:30 a.m. chili sampling begins. There is a $15 entry fee for those competing for best chili bragging rights and can be paid at the door.

“Each cook gets their own tasting kit as part of their fee,” Hett said.

The best chili winner will receive $100; second place receives $50 and third gets $35 for their efforts.

Voting for chili and cars will end at 2:30 p.m. and awards will be presented shortly after.

Following the awards, participants will start pitching in the corn hole tournament. Entry fee is $5 per two-person team. Singles are welcomed.

Proceeds will go toward lake improvements.

“In the past, these funds have been used to paint the hall and benches around the lake, replace seats on benches, and buying trees,” Hett said.
