Lalouette-Crawford wins by 1 vote

Staff writer

Candidates for the 1st District Marion County Commission seat had mostly muted reactions to the election that gave Republican Lori Lalouette-Crawford the win by one vote.

County commissioners, acting in their role as the election canvassing board, counted provisional ballots Monday and those unread by ballot machines. The final tally was 676 to 675.

Independent Craig Dodd had a two-vote lead on election night but is now considering requesting a recount. Dodd has until 5 p.m. Wednesday to ask the Marion County Clerk’s office to recount the ballots.

“I haven’t made a decision on a recount, and I don’t want to comment until that’s done,” Dodd said.

Lalouette-Crawford did not respond to requests for comment. Lalouette-Crawford’s treasurer, Larry Cushenbery, called the election “a real barn-burner.”
