Suggestion for Goessel vacancies
To the editor:
To the people of Goessel: The following letter was sent to the mayor and Goessel City Council:
In the matter of filling the vacant town council seat, I recommend the following procedure: The names of people who recently had been candidates, and publicly notified write-in candidates for mayor or town council be placed on a ballot. Those people are Anton Epp, Joel Ratzlaff, and Jerry Stika.
In addition, a public meeting should be called where the town’s registered voters in the last city election shall come and be allowed to make nominations. If, after that, more than three people are on the ballot, a runoff election, voting for three candidates, be held to narrow the number of candidates to the top three vote getters. Then a final election ballot be cast of the top three to fill the vacant seat.
The people should have a say. The government shall be of the people, by the people, and for the people.
