Library to play 'blind date' matchmaker

Staff writer

Are you looking for a date for Valentine’s Day this weekend? If so, Hillsboro Public Library has a blind date for you.

Not a date with a person, though. A blind date with a book.

Library director Cathy Fish said patrons are able to visit the library and pick out a book that has been wrapped.

“They’re wrapped in paper so you can’t see them,” Fish said, “but there’s a card on the outside that includes a summary to tell what the movie or book is about.”

Along with books, Fish said they have also wrapped audio books and DVDs.

The reasoning behind the “blind date” is to help promote new reading material the library has received.

“They’re all books that have never been checked out, so it’s not something a patron would have read already,” Fish said. “It’s just kind of a fun way to get things promoted.”

Fish said the blind dates will be held through the end of the month or “until we run out.”

Fish also said they have received positive reviews of the project from multiple patrons, and said it’s “a fun way to promote reading.”
