Louise Shumate
Services for Louise J. Shumate, 92, of Strong City, formerly of Cedar Point, who died last Thursday, at Chase County Care and Rehabilitation Center will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. Interment will follow in Cedar Point Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 tonight at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home.
The daughter of Charles and Ruth (Lauffer) Rader, she was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Howard.
She graduated from Piedmont High School in 1944, received a teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, and taught school in Cedar Point before she and and Frank E. Shumate were married June 1, 1950, in Emporia.
She is survived by son Richard Shumate of Overland Park; daughter Sharon Burton of Sloan, Iowa; sister Arlene Connors of Haysville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Rader.
A memorial has been established to the Chase County Junior/Senior High School athletic department.
