Marion's perfect season continues

Marion extended its record to a perfect 6-0 for the season by defeating Council Grove, 32-14, on the road Friday,.
Trevor Schafers leads the team with 138 yards rushing on average per game and nine touchdowns total for the season.
Quarterback Jack Lanning also has nine touchdowns and averages 135 yards rushing per game.
Brian Nguyen grabs 7.5 tackles on average a game with his teammate Cole Smith averaging 6 tackles a game.
Gavin Regier, Luke Watkins, and Brian Nguyen have earned themselves two quarterback sacks each so far this season.
The Warriors are ranked No. 6 in the Class 1A football rankings,and No. 86 overall in the state.
Marion will be playing its fifth road game of the season this Friday at Bluestem (0-6).
Goessel
In a cool Friday night football game, Goessel broke its five- game losing streak.
Halfway through the first quarter, Noah Schrag found daylight around the right side of the line and sprinted 27 yards for a touchdown. Jake Flaming ran in the extra points.
Pretty Prairie responded with a touchdown of their own, but the Bluebirds prevented their extra points and the first quarter ended with a Bluebird lead 8-6.
Schrag went off tackle for a five yard plunge and on the extra point, he needed the help of the Goessel backfield to move a pile of bodies across the goal line. Goessel led 16-6.
Chevy Gagnon recovered a Bulldog fumble, giving the Bluebirds another opportunity to score. With fourth down on the one yard line, the Bulldog defense was expecting a plunge from the fullback, which left Wade Spurlin wide open for a pass play and another score.
Pretty Prairie answered with another touchdown making the half time score Goessel 24-Pretty Prairie 12.
The third quarter was scoreless for both teams. Jake Flaming patiently followed his blockers through the line and then broke free for a 35 yard gallop early in the fourth quarter and also converted the extra points to give the Bluebirds a 32-12 lead. Goessel’s senior, Klay Willis, was wide open down field, waited for a Schrag pass and then finished a 63 yard sprint for a score.
After a Spurlin interception, Flaming put the finishing touches on a final drive with Trey Gaddis converting the extra points to give the Bluebirds a win by the final score of 46-12.
The Bluebirds are 1-2 in District games and will face Moundridge (3-0) on Friday.
Peabody-Burns
The Warriors extended their winning streak to four Thursday by defeating Altoona-Midway, 64-19.
Quarterback Aiden Hurst finished with 13 completed passes for 261 yards total that included six touchdowns.
Cade Gossen only had 15 yards with six carries when he finished, but that was enough to capture two touchdowns of his own to go with.
Jameson Miles led the team in receiving yards with a total of 8 receptions for 212 yards and five touchdowns.
Nobody was getting by Colin Groff on defense with 11 tackles of his own.
Peabody-Burns (4-2) hits the road this Friday to play Waverly (5-0).
Hillsboro
The Trojans were unable to contain Southeast of Saline at home on Friday, losing 46-14.
“While the scoreboard may indicate a one-sided game, it’s essential to recognize that our players exhibited some significant strength and areas of growth,” coach Demetrius Cox said.
Quarterback Dawson Boldt would find tight end Zander Haslett two times for a touchdown pass, one for 87 yards and another for 38.
“We demonstrated moments of promise as we moved the ball effectively at times. However, we also faced challenges in finding a consistent rhythm,” Cox said.
Defense stepped up in the red zone and prevented SES from scoring highlighted Trojans commitment and skill. They showcased their resilience and determination by forcing five turnovers throughout the game.
Coach Cox has five key areas he will address this week as they prepare for Friday’s game: consistency, execution, communication, game planning, and mental toughness.
“We understand that these improvements won’t happen overnight,” Cox said.
The coaching staff has full confidence in the team’s potential.
Hillsboro (3-3) will be on the road this Friday to play Smoky Valley (0-6).
Centre
Centre football team traveled to Chetopa and was defeated, 52-29.
The quarterback was injured, so there’s not much of a team left.
The Cougars will play Chase (not Chase County) in the final game of the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday on the road.
