Marion to have Memorial Day service after all

Donna Kreutziger couldn’t sleep after learning from the Record that no Memorial Day services were scheduled for Marion Cemetery.

So, the next morning, she set to work to do something about it and quickly found volunteers from Florence’s John McKay American Legion Post willing to help.

Josh Inlow of Florence will coordinate the Marion ceremony, which will include military honors by the post and the playing of “Taps” at a special time — 4 p.m. Monday.

No speaker or other music had been arranged as of Thursday evening.

An avenue of flags at the cemetery will remain until after the service.

The Florence post will be busy Monday. It also will conduct ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Florence, at 10 a.m. at Cedar Point and at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence.
