Hillsboro City Council voted to have Mayor Delores Dalke, a licensed real estate broker, list nine lots in Willow Glen subdivision for sale.
Dalke asked the council to take steps to sell the lots so the city does not have to continue paying taxes on them. She offered to list the lots for no commission.
Taxes and other assessments on the lots are about $1,500 each per year.
“At this point, we need to get them sold,” Dalke said.
Council member Shane Marler asked Dalke’s opinion of the city’s asking price. The mayor suggested asking about $5,000 but leaving offers open to negotiation with the council.
It is in the city’s best interest to sell the lots so houses can be built on them, council member Bob Watson said. It would reverse the situation from paying taxes to receiving taxes on the properties.
The council unanimously approved having Dalke list the lots at $5,000 for no commission.
