Medical spa business to move west

Staff writer

S&S Medspa, now operating in rented space in a downtown beauty salon, soon will have its own storefront at 308 E. Main St. in Marion.

The building is the former home of JR Hatters, just east of Marion National Bank.

The spa is operated by nurses Shawna Johnson, Shannon Hoffer, and Francie Wharton, cryoskin technicians Katie Perry and Summer Espinoza, and administrative assistant Madilyn Phipps.

Since S&S Medspa opened for business a year ago, it has operated in Signatures Salon, 416 E. Main St. Because of space limitations, only one service can be operated at a time there, and services have been by appointment only.

Shawna Johnson said the change of address should take place soon.

“We’re hoping for the first of the year,” she said. “We have just completely outgrown where we are.”

Johnson said Signatures Salon had been great to work with, but it always was the plan to move to a roomier place.

“We’re hoping to have regular hours once we get down there,” she said. “All the clients are excited to have a bigger space, and we’re going to be able to expand our services.”

The additional room will mean more clients can be seen at the same time.

“We’re going to be able to offer facials and peels, and possibly massage,” Johnson said.

With expanded services, Johnson expects to grow the number of employees as well. The building has two apartments on the second floor. Johnson said they might eventually be renovated into short-term rentals that would allow clients to book both a place to stay and services at the spa.
