The bridge over the new channel of the Cottonwood, south of town, was completed Monday morning and the road opened for use Tuesday morning of this week.

The pavement on the block south of Main on Second St. and on the street south of the Record office was opened for traffic Tuesday evening.

The county has begun construction of a garage and warehouse in the east part of town. The building will be 62 x 52 feet in dimension and will be used to house the county truck and to store material used by the county engineer’s department of the county work. It will be a steel frame building covered with sheet metal, entirely fireproof.

Corn husking is the order of the day. Some of the corn is going sixty bushels to the acre and better.

Another of the fine, pioneer women of the community is gone. Mrs. T.P. Burkert, who has been a resident of this community since the early 1870s, died at her home in Marion on Monday morning.

WANTED—The party who borrowed Mrs. H.H. Harter’s big iron kettle to return same at once.

County Farm Agent Arthur Myers has been having good luck the past week in the work of eradicating the prairie dogs in the west part of the county. Poison was scattered during the fine, warm weather last week and from the reports, the pests are being rapidly destroyed.
