We are informed this week that the work at the power plant is going along in fine shape, and it is expected that the large engine will again be in use sometime in the first of next week.

Charles McMillen of Lost Springs won in the wrestling match at The Rink Thursday night in two falls out of three from Tommy Doctor of Belleville, one of the fastest mat men in Kansas.

The match was arranged by the American Legion and a good crowd attended, although wrestling is a new sport for this place.

Doctor asked for a return match in the near future which will probably be staged here.

Word has been received from the office of the Internal Revenue Collector for Kansas that there will be a special agent of that office in Marion Centre from March 5th to 15th to give help to any who may want it in filling out their income tax returns.

Playing upon a court that resembled a chicken coop more than a basketball court, the Marion boys and girls were unable to defeat the Whitewater Highs at Whitewater last Friday. The playing space was so small that teamwork was impossible, thus Marion’s small fast teams were unable to get away with the long end of the scores.

Having purchased the stock of The Grand Mercantile Company, Leland Thompson and Robert Florer announce their association in a new partnership. They have decided to conduct a department store, continuing the use of the old name.

The store will occupy only the west room of the present store. A stairway will lead to the second floor in the rear of the room, the shoe department will be at the rear downstairs room and the front will be used for dry goods on one side and men’s clothing and furnishing on the other.
