For several days stories have been running in the daily press about a party of American boys who went to Germany with a shipment of dairy cattle and of their treatment there.

The stories are of special interest in this county because a large number of the cattle were sent from here and there are two or three young men with the shipment who live in Hillsboro. The cows were sent by Mennonites.

We know of two men, Arthur “Pug” Sailor and “Flossie” Hiebert, both well known, who went with the shipment. The article, taken from the Kansas City Star, has extracts from interesting stories about the trip.

The wisdom of the purchase of the chemical apparatus and fire truck was again proven Monday evening when the Presbyterian manse took fire and would probably have been a complete loss without the fire outfit.

We understand that Mr. G.M. Wolf has purchased his partner, Mr. Mathews’, interest in the creamery and will conduct the business alone. He is filling his ice house with ice shipped from McPherson.

Oyster stew, celery, pickles, pie and coffee will be served Wednesday evening, March 9, at the Aulne church. Sandwiches will be served to those who prefer them. Proceeds will be applied on the school piano.

Mrs. Brashear, the new trimmer in the millinery department of the Grand, is here this week.

Miss Pearl Plunkett resigned her position with the Rolley Co. on last Saturday. She is now in Kansas City purchasing stock for a new novelty store which she will soon open. It will be in the same room occupied by the Ladies Toggery.

Why doesn’t some artist draw the men displaying underwear in the advertisements with a look of shame instead of a smile on their faces?
