You could almost have taken the census of this locality from the people who attended the cake walk given at the George Penland place last Friday evening by the Federated Ladies society. The immense new barn was officially opened by the event.

Marion boosters—a lot of them—are counting on backing the High School team at Cottonwood Falls tomorrow, Friday, afternoon. A special train will leave here about 12:30 and return shortly after the game.

The large barn on the A.P. Beltz place burned one night last week with all the contents. Ten horses were in the barn at the time of the fire, eight were burned to death, one burned so badly that it was killed soon afterward, and one other, which though badly burned will live. A large amount of hay, harness, etc. were also destroyed. The loss was partly covered by insurance.

The undefeated Marion highs won from the Newton highs last Friday by the one-sided score of 78-0.

Officers captured a still last night, Wednesday, at Waldeck, and a Mexican by the name of Chrdlu Cmfwyp (or something like that) who was operating it. Undersheriff Richter and a couple of special agents for the Rock Island raided the place and made the capture. The still was on the Rock Island right of way.

Undersheriff Richter has a fine picture, which he took at the Legion convention at Kansas City, which he prizes highly. He took the shot of five distinguished gentlemen as he passed the reviewing stand when the parade was going by. The five visitors and guests were Pershing, Foch, Beatty, Diaz, and Jacques. It is a remarkable clear and fine picture.

Work is progressing nicely on the new residence being erected by Chas. Kuhn on Cedar Street. Carl Sheldon’s fine new bungalow is ready for the plasterers.
