Newly-elected city council members Chris Meierhoff and Jerry Kline and re-elected Mayor Mary Olson took their oaths of office at Monday’s city council meeting.

Marion High School graduate Jessica Vogel will perform with the Washburn Wind Ensemble April 28 in a special concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The performance will include a world premiere of a work by composer Brian Balmages, which was commissioned as a tribute to the legacy of former U.S. Senator Bob Dole.

Florence’s annual Spring Fling will be held Sunday, rain or shine, in the gym on Dean Street, Florence. The event features fun, food, and music. It is sponsored by the Florence Labor Day committee with proceeds to fund Florence’s annual Labor Day celebration.

Winners of Marion Cub Scouts’ annual Pinewood Derby held Sunday were Matthew Christensen, first place, Cooper Garmin, second, and Blake Gormley, third. Winners in the Tiger (younger) Cub division were Dylan Cooper, first, Tyler Boudreaux, second, and Todd Palic, third.
