Yields of up to 50 bushels an acre have been reported as wheat harvest begins this week.

Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro reports average weight is 60 pounds with moisture content of 12 to 12.5 percent and a protein content of 12.5 to 13 percent.

Marion farmers have not been as fortunate. Marion’s yield range has been between 35 and 39 bushels per acre and weight per acre of 59 to 60 pounds.

Florence Historical Society’s 13th annual “Picnic on the Lawn” will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Harvey House.

More than $500 will be awarded July 4 at the annual “Redneck in Ramona” parade and festivities. The day will feature several different races and athletic competitions, food, wagon rides, and a parade beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a performance by The Greenhorns and fireworks.

A pre-4th of July dance, featuring the Callahan Band, will begin at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Peabody American Legion building.

Blue and white directional signs were erected this past week in Marion. A project of Marion Economic Development Inc. and USD 408, the City of Marion provided posts, and city workers set them.
