St. Luke Hospital has surpassed the $1 million mark in its fundraising efforts to provide additional enhancements to its renovation project. This includes an addition to the physical therapy department and improvements to the emergency and operating rooms.

Mary Beth Bowers of rural Marion is pictured turning the crank of an antique corn sheller at Marion Elementary School as a part of fourth grade studies of the Oregon and Santa Fe trails. Students also were able to ride in a “prairie wagon” that Bowers’ father bought in the 1950s.

Chris Costello traveled to Croatia for a two-week vacation in June at the invitation of his brother, Pat, who spent about six weeks in Kosovo as part of an American Bar Association program. Costello tells how he found Croatia to be “an unexpected delight.”

Freshman Timothy Knolla is this week’s Marion County Record Athlete of the Week.

Pictured celebrating Sew What Quilt Shop’s first dollar of profit at 162 Main St., Marion, is co-owner Carol Riggs and Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Tamara Christiansen, Shawn Geis, Kevin Fruechting, Roger Hannaford, Margo Yates, Doug Kjellin, Chris Meierhoff, and Janet Blue.

Senior citizens from around the county gathered at Marion Senior Center to celebrate the 50th year of the Senior Citizens of Marion County organization. Past directors, board members, and those considered pioneers in the organization were recognized.
