In this issue is the list of monthly activities planned for next year’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of Marion becoming a city, the 100th anniversary of Old Settlers’ Day, that a hospital has been in Marion for a century, and Marion Historical Museum has been in operation for half a century.

Marion High School Students of the Month for November are senior Derek Stuchlik and freshman Katey Ehrlich.

Heather Holub spoke on behalf of herself and siblings Chris, Molly, and Tamra during a County Commission meeting Monday. The siblings want to build cabins to the area near the heated fishing dock.

Marion Elementary School students wrote letters of support to keep the Marion Duckwall store open. Students gave the letters to a tearful Janie Meierhoff, who is the longtime manager of the Marion store. Meierhoff was asked to send them on to the corporate office in Abilene.

Marion Community Christmas representative Ana Krause is pictured carrying a bag of toys collected by Marion County Toy Run to be given to needy children. The Toy Run has collected countless toys and about $111,000 in 17 years.

Travis Parmley has been named Fireman of the Year at Great Bend. The 1998 Marion High School graduate received the award at a firefighter’s ball Nov. 20 by the Great Bend Fire Department.

November students of the month at Marion Elementary School are Abby Wesner, Miles Olson, Jaeden McMillin, Keighlee Armstrong, Cameron Steward, Lindsey Sigel, Karli Parks, Marissa Jacobson, and Sadie McDonald.
