Marion Advancement Campaign opened a renovated City Auditorium, now known as Marion Community Center, to the public Thursday. With the floor leveled, the auditorium is now ready to hold wedding receptions, class reunions, and training seminars.

Sophomore Derrick Dvorak is the Marion County Record’s MHS Athlete of the Week.

Santa Claus is pictured as he reads a letter from Emily Hake at his cabin in downtown Marion. Santa says Nintendo DS portable video game systems was the most common request Saturday.

Dylan Goebel is the newest Eagle Scout in Marion Boy Scout Troop 102. For his leadership service project, Goebel organized scouts to install curb stops and do other work at Marion Youth Center.

Skip Sieger of rural Marion set up his telescope Tuesday morning to watch the lunar eclipse. An eclipse coinciding with the winter solstice is a rare event, Eileen Sieger said. It was the first lunar eclipse on the winter solstice in 372 years. The last time it occurred was in 1638.

Marion High School senior Ariel Depler of Florence won an academic award from the Council of Exceptional Children. She is invited to attend the April award ceremony in Washington.

Adam Palic has been transferred to St. Luke Hospital after a month at Meadowbrook Hospital in Gardner. Adam was hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident Nov. 13.

Gary Carlson’s TV and Satellite is moving, after 53 years of doing business in a shop at his home, to a building at 1111 E. Main Street., something he has contemplated for a number of years.
