Marion Police Department will join other Kansas law enforcement agencies in an attempt to curb teenage deaths in automobile accidents. In 2010, 51 teens were killed in car crashes, 75 percent of those teen-agers were not wearing seatbelts.

With 24 days left, Marion County Park and Lake Superintendent Steve Hudson has his hands full getting ready for the attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most people roasting marshmallows at one time.

Grass has been burned off at the chosen spot for the roast and limbs, knocked down in a 2011 storm, are being made into a pile 6 feet wide and 3 feet tall for the bonfire. Hudson says other items, including parking for participants, still need to be finalized.

An article by staff writer Jennifer Stultz tells how the Brad Vannocker family, including children and grandchildren, have been raising pigs on their farm south of Hillsboro and showing them across the state and country.
