Construction of the new county jail and law enforcement center could be completed in June, Josh Walker told the Marion County Commission Feb. 29. Construction is on pace for the county to move inmates into the new facility in August.

Former NFL long-snapper and current Kansas City Chiefs radio field reporter Kendall Gammon has agreed to speak June 2 during Chingawassa Days in Marion.

The team will play top-seeded Hoxie Thursday in the opening round of the state tournament in Emporia.

Tabor College president Jules Glanzer is shown presenting a $64,000 Presidential Leadership Scholarship to Marion High School senior Beth Nesser of Florence. Nesser and three other recipients were selected from among 26 semifinalists for the prestigious scholarships.

The Celtic Celebration on Saturday at Marion Community Center was such a rousing success that organizers have already scheduled a return event for 2013. Pam Bowers and Jeanice Thomas organized the event on behalf of Marion Advancement Campaign, Marion PRIDE, and Marion Main Street Merchants.

Blue sky shines through where a roof should be on a hay shed at the farm of Bill and Janet Hein on Holly Rd. west of Hillsboro. The roof was destroyed Feb. 28 by wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour that were part of a fast moving storm. Neighboring farms also sustained heavy damage.
