When Mrs. Fred Griffiths was in Ohio recently to attend the funeral of a brother, she secured an old dinner bell that has been “in the family” for perhaps 80 years. It was the first bell in that county. It has been put up on the farm southwest of town where Will Miesse lives, and its tones are as clear and true as ever.

Harry Rogers has accepted the lead in a company playing “The Virginian” and started this week from Chicago on a trip that will cover the southeast states.

A program and box social will be Jan. 28 at Dickerson School. The object is to raise money for Claney Cemetery Association. All the ladies are requested to bring supper for two. Boxes will be sold to highest bidders. Proceeds are to help pay for a tool house at the cemetery.

D.W. Wheeler, who was confined to his home for a number of days with pneumonia, is able to be downtown and attend to business again.

The domestic science department of the high school, under the direction of Miss Lewallen, served a banquet to the school board, board members’ wives, teachers, and a few other guests Tuesday evening. The guests were entertained by a paper on athletics by Mr. Pierce and by a reading by Mrs. Matlock.
