Pursuant to notice, quite a number of the business men of Marion Centre met at the office of C.W. Keller, Esq., on Wednesday evening last, for the purpose of organizing a Library Association. All persons who are in favor of such an enterprise are requested to meet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the office of C.W. Keller, Esq., to perfect the organization.

This has been a remarkable winter, colder than the “oldest inhabitant” of any part of the country remembers to have experienced before, and yet the papers are unusually free from accounts of suffering from this cause, another proof of the prosperity which generally pervades the country,

James Hopper has gone to St. Louis and will return to-morrow or Monday with a car load of horses, which he will put on the market and sell cheap.

A pound party will be held at Rogers’ Hall next Monday night for the benefit of the Home of the Friendless at Leavenworth. Any kind of articles of clothing or provisions will be thankfully received and promptly forwarded to their destination.

Another fine lot of visiting cards just received at this office. The lady who is not supplied with visiting cards is a long ways behind the fashion. Call and see specimens.

Dave Lucas was evidently born for luck. He was elected Post Master of the House of Representatives of the Kansas Legislature again last week. This makes the third successive session in which Dave has held that position. Being a third-termer, he is now fairly entitled to be called a “bigger man than old Grant.”

If you have any silver certificates in your possession, perhaps you had better exchange them for some safer money, as they are quite likely to depreciate in value pretty soon.
