At this week’s meeting of Marion County Commissioners, longtime volunteer Gene Winkler of Marion was appointed interim emergency medical services director, replacing Larry Larsen of Peabody, who resigned July 23.

Twelve residents of St. Luke Living Center attended a lawn party Thursday morning at the home of Harry and Theodora Koslowsky. Cookies, cupcakes, fresh blackberries from the prolific Koslowsky garden, and pink lemonade were served.

Marion City Council approved agreements Monday with Cardie Oil of Tampa and Hett Construction to build a 200-by-265-foot tire retail and repair shop at the city’s industrial park.

Four soldiers who recently returned from Iraq were honored at a ceremony befitting true hometown heroes July 25 at the American Legion Postin Hillsboro. The four recognized were Specialists Peter Richert of Hillsboro, Simon Makovec of Ramona, and Jeffrey Linn and Zachary Linn, both of Newton.

Arnold and Edith Regier of Marion will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Kirby House, Abilene.
