A memorial for former major league baseball player and Marion native Charley Faust was placed this past week at the Marion baseball and softball complex. Faust played in only two games for the New York Giants but was a member of the team for three pennant-winning seasons in a row. He was considered a good-luck charm for the team and is featured in the book, “Victory Faust: The Rube Who Saved McGraw’s Giants.”
Marion High School juniors and seniors had their annual banquet Saturday evening at Eastmoor United Methodist Church before attending the prom at Marion High School gymnasium. Pictured on the front page is Camille Christensen as she is escorted in the promenade by Brad Klenda and Mitchell Leppke.
About 50 Native Americans are walking along US-50 in “Longest Walk 2” from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. The group spent Saturday night at Grandview Park in Florence. They are commemorating the historic “Longest Walk” of 1978 that resulted in historic changes for Native America.
Mike Helmer, a 1990 Marion High School graduate, recently was named head women’s basketball coach at Butler Community College. His parents are Roger and Sally Hannaford of Marion.
