Theme for this year’s Old Settlers Day will be “Marion Reservoir — 40 Years of Fun,” marking the anniversary of construction of the dam and lake.

Joseph Hall of Lincoln, Nebraska, is one of 40 semi-finalists on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” An Elvis tribute artist, he performed on stage for the first time just 14 months ago, in June 2007, at Marion’s Chingawassa Days.

Tammy Hinton of Florence received her first dollar of profit from Marion Chamber of Commerce as owner of Stone City Café, Marion.

Hinton has operated the business since mid-July.

Chamber representatives pictured with her are Greg Bowers, Alex Case, Kevin Fruechting, Doug Kjellin, Mickey Lundy, Dave Mayfield, Melissa Parmley, Trudy Slifer, and Margo Yates.

Marion Elementary School’s fourth grade class took its annual water study trip Friday to Luta Creek. Students rode in canoes, did water painting, made origami boats, and learned about sedimentary procedures.

Garrett Alleven, Tyler Arocha, and Taylor May are pictured with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger Neil Whitaker as he shows students which organisms live at the bottom of the creek and talks to them about the water system.
