Marion has been notified that it is to receive a $400,000 community development block grant that together with a $644,480 loan from Kansas Department of Transportation will be used to make needed improvements to Eisenhower Dr. and N. Cedar St., which connect US-56 to K-256.

Grand Funk Railroad, the top-selling American rock group of the 1970s, will be the featured act at the 17th annual Chingawassa Days festival in Marion.

Members of Marion Cub Scouts competed Sunday in their annual Pinewood Derby. William Holt placed first, followed by Zach Fruechting and Seth Snelling. Zach’s car also was named best of show.

Deer Trail Implement has joined Conrady Western and Pankratz Implement to form a new company, PrairieLand Partners. PrairieLand Partners will have John Deere dealerships in Anthony, Emporia, Hutchinson, McPherson, Wichita, and Winfield in addition to Marion.

Homecoming candidates at Marion High School are Hank Collett, Charlie Holub, Kalaya Jackson, Calvin Jeffrey, Austin Percell, and Kristin Waner. The king and queen will be announced Friday between games against Halstead.
