Work on streets is ahead of schedule, despite heavy and unexpected rain. On Friday, subcontractors were removing old curbs and portions of driveways on South Freeborn Street as they prepared to pour new curb and gutter before the street is blacktopped.

Marion County Improvement District No. 2 board members Frances Smalley, Ken Vinduska, and Sherman Kelsey joined County Commissioner Linda Peterson at a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday at the district’s newly-installed pump station in Marion.

Rep. Pat Roberts is pictured on the front page as he greets Hillsboro High School government students Jared Jost and Andy Kleiber following a community meeting in Hillsboro. Roberts appeared live on AgriTalk, a radio show, and answered calls from listeners as well as from those attending the live show in Hillsboro.

Brendan Sager’s “Eating Around the County” article this week features Kingfisher’s Inn (or some similar variation of that name) that has been serving Marion County dinner a la lake since the 1950s. Current owners are Bob and Kathy Sprowls who purchased the business in 1981.

Graduating members of Leadership Marion County 1995 were honored Monday with a dinner and reception at Olde Towne Restaurant in Hillsboro. Members are Reuben Feuerborn, Carol Maggard, Stuart Meador, Pam Meador, Pat Ash, and Susan Robson of Marion; Coleen Koop, Todd Vogt, and Tom Kaufman, Hillsboro; Sharon Williams and Brad Putter, Florence; and Peggy Jay of Goessel.
