World War II veteran Kenny Robinson and his daughter M/Sgt. Terri Lehman (Ret.) took part in Labor Day festivities at Florence. Eleven floats commemorating the end of WWII were included in the parade. They focused on the sacrifice of those who served overseas, as well as those who were on the home front.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital during the month of August included Brayden Allen Putter, born Aug. 1; Jacob Lewis Harper, Aug. 4; Mattie Linn Carlson, Aug. 5; Kyle Eric Methvin, Aug. 15; and Austin Scott Pederson, Aug. 26.

Marion High School football team opened its season Friday with a 64-0 thumping of Eureka. Quarterback Chris Darrow ran in two touchdowns, passed for a touchdown, and returned an interception.

A breakfast buffet will be served Sunday mornings at the VFW Post Home in Marion. It is a community service project of the club since there are no cafes serving breakfast in Marion on Sunday mornings.

A crowd of more than 2,000 people was on hand Saturday to view the parade during Burdick’s 23rd annual Labor Day celebration. Parade theme was “The Rich Heritage of Burdick.”

Ray Davidson of Florence is a valued member of the staff of the Flint Hills Overland Wagon Train which is headquartered in El Dorado. The wagon train has been providing trips on the Kansas prairie since 1979, hosting travelers from many states and countries.
