The board of education of Marion Unified School District met Monday night giving approval of a plan to pursue expansion projects at Marion Elementary School and at Marion High School.

Bill Immer, who was raised in Marion and grew up at the Elgin Hotel, is introduced this week as the first in a proposed series of “Marion boys who made their mark in the world beyond.” He had a long and distinguished career and received numerous awards and a great deal of recognition. But, in Bill Immer’s mind, “Marion will always be home.”

Pictured are two volunteers as they stir coarsely ground beef in a large vat as part of the 3-day meat-canning relief effort held at Marion County Fairgrounds. The meat is cooked to a temperature of 140 degrees before being packed and sealed in cans. The meat will go to the needy in many locations around the world, including Bosnia, Cuba, Haiti, and Iraq.

Alvin and Bernadeen Winter, owners of Marion Marble and Granite Works in Marion, have received a commendation from Marion Chamber of Commerce for the business’s new look. The Winters recently gave the store a whole new front, with cedar siding, a canopy, and new windows.

Plans for the annual Community Thanksgiving dinner are progressing smoothly for another outstanding event. The dinner will be at noon Thanksgiving Day at Marion Elementary School
