Msgr. Arthur Tonne of Marion, longtime parish priest at Pilsen, has published his ninth volume in a series of “Jokes Priests Can Tell.” Tonne is internationally noted as an author, having published numerous books and pamphlets. His “jokes” series of books has brought him wide recognition, including an appearance on the national TV program hosted by David Letterman.
The son of Ed and Mary Costello of Marion, Pat Costello grew up in Marion and is one of those youth who have gone out into the world beyond and carved a successful career. It’s been a long and exciting journey for a boy from the middle of Kansas, to both coasts and in capacities from big city investigative reporter to judge.
Katie Barta-Moran and Joe Box were crowned Queen and King of Courts Friday during the Marion High School boys’ varsity basketball game.
Mary Lynam, daughter of Phyllis Melton of Marion and the late R.R. Melton, M.D., was featured on the cover of the fall/winter edition of The Guide to Johnston County, a magazine published by the Sun newspaper group of the Kansas City area.
Marion High School senior Molly Hanes has been selected as student of the month by the faculty. She is the daughter of Melanie and Cliff Willingham of Florence, and Neal and Jane Hanes of Marion. Molly’s future plans include attending college. She wants to major in business management or elementary education.
The bowling team sponsored by Stone City Café won the 36th annual Marion City Men’s Bowling Tournament completed this weekend at MarBowl Lanes. The doubles event was won by the team of Mitch Carlson and Christian Pederson. Winner of the singles category was Bill Wright with Danny Rudolph taking all events.
