Recently installed sirens failed to function at 11 p.m. Tuesday to alert residents of a dangerous approaching storm. Instead, emergency vehicles moved through the town with sirens blaring. Many sought shelter and remained there until about 12:30 a.m. when the danger was past. Earlier that day, a tornado had touched down in the northwest corner of Marion County, damaging eight farms in Logan Township, northwest of Durham.
Marion Centre is the setting for Hillsboro author Esther Loewen Vogt’s latest novel, “The Enchanted Prairie.” Vogt is working on final typing of the novel’s sequel, “The Lonely Plains.”
The history of Marion County Park and Lake was recounted June 9 at the annual Marion County Historical Society meeting. Marion businessman Roger “Bud” Hannaford related the history of the lake.
Births announced in this issue included Macy Dawn, daughter of Bryan and Sherri Hess, born June 11 at St. Luke Hospital, and Samuel Michael, son of Mike and Kathy Ehrlich, born June 12 at St. Luke.
Elsie Reinke, Norma Hannaford, and Margaret Wolf were honored at the June 8 special meeting of Chapter D.B., PEO, in recognition of their 60-year memberships in the chapter.
Dena Michelle Connell and Gregory Douglas Tice exchanged double-ring marriage vows at 7 p.m. May 30 in Marion Christian Church. David Branson officiated at the ceremony.
