Construction of an addition to St. Luke Living Center is progressing slowly despite snow, ice, and wet weather. Concrete footings for the addition have been poured, but further work is dependent solely on weather improving.

Fourth graders in Deanna Thierolf’s class at Marion Elementary School celebrated Martin Luther King Day on Monday by pinning up clouds on their “I can make this dream come true” classroom bulletin board.

The clouds were suggestions by students on how to eliminate discrimination. Students pictured pinning a suggestion on the board are Kathy Rogers, Amanda Fruechting, Jenny Helmer, Heath Tajchman, Stacey Longhofer, and Randi Barnett.

A picture of the front page shows Nic Toupin sailing through the air Friday afternoon on the banks of Luta Creek in Marion. Deep snow and ice have made sledding down the Elm St. hill, the banks of Luta Creek, and the dam at Marion Reservoir popular.

Ludwig Truck Line, Florence, was featured in the December issue of Mid-America Transporter. The firm celebrated its 70th anniversary in June and is regarded as the oldest truck line in Kansas.

The Davey Hett farm south of Marion is where a group of friends has gathered for more than 25 years for as many hockey games as they can get under their belts before the sun takes ice away. The first game this year was Jan. 13.
