Displays in Central Park during Saturday’s annual Art in the Park remained during morning showers and found pleasant sunshine in the afternoon. The rain didn’t deter more than 5,000 shoppers from spending the day viewing various talents from Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas artists and craftsmen.

Centre High School seniors Jason Hajek and Tina Ybarra received homecoming honors Friday night just before the Centre-Tescott football game. The football team, behind seven Jason Hajek touchdowns, trounced Tescott, 57-8.

Irv Schroeder County Motors has been sold, but the name remains the same. Bruce and Jan Schroeder have purchased the Hillsboro automotive business from Bruce’s father, Irv Schroeder, who has retired.

Marion’s 82nd annual Old Settlers Day weekend celebration will kick off Friday night with a get-together at Marion Country Club. It will continue with a parade Saturday, and dances, dinners, reunions, and other events throughout the weekend. Included will be an open house dedication Sunday afternoon at St. Luke Living Center.

After the band concert Saturday afternoon at the park, museum directors will present a bronze plaque to Mayor Gerry Harris. The plaque is to be mounted in Central Park, recognizing the park as the original campsite of the first settlers in 1861.
