Announcement of 1994 appointments by the city include those of Joan Bowers as city clerk and Ed Wheeler as city attorney. Donald Keazer was named police chief; Garry Klose and Ryan Navrat as patrolmen; and James Grady, Don Harp, John Bezdek, and Tom Wunderlick as reserve patrolmen.

Biking Across Kansas has released routes and overnight stops for the 1,000 expected cyclists to ride June 11 to 18. Marion will be the fifth overnight stop on the route.

The 90th birthday of Norma Hannaford was celebrated Sunday at Marion Country Club by her family and friends. Theme of the evening centered on the Roaring ’20s.

This week’s “They made a difference” column features Gail Merrill, who came to Marion in 1936 and operated a laundry and dry-cleaning business until retiring in 1974. During that time, he was active in Marion affairs.

Copied from April 12, 1934, this week’s 60 Years Ago Memories article states: “Crowds thronged the Duckwall store Friday evening for the informal opening of their new store. The public viewed the different departments while a four-piece orchestra played in the rear of the store.”
