Joann Knak, a 10-year veteran volunteer on the Hillsboro based Marion County ambulance crew, was name director for the Marion County Ambulance Service Monday by the board of county commissioners.

Knak has lived in Hillsboro for the past 20 years. She began as a volunteer crewman with the ambulance service when it began in 1971.

Gusts of wind up to 60 and 70 mph covered the city with broken tree limbs and snapped utility wires early Monday morning, but little other property damage was reported.

St. Luke Medical Clinic was the name selected Thursday by the hospital district board for the new medical clinic building now under construction for Marion Hospital District No. 1. Completion date for the building is July 20.

Edward Zeller of Marion caught a 3¼-pound flathead at Sugar Mill Dam on Luta Creek Wednesday afternoon.

He hurried home, changed into more photogenic clothing, and then brought his trophy to the newspaper office to have the event recorded for future generations.

Then, he informed all present, “My mom’s going to cook it for supper, and we’re gonna eat it.

A Chuckwagon is pictured as it rolls across the route to Marion County Lake Saturday after a 25-mile trek along the Santa Fe Trail. The wagon was part of a 22-member caravan of closet cowboys who participated in a 13-day Santa Fe Trail ride across eastern Kansas as a fund-raising activity to benefit the arthritis drive.

High endurance was rewarded Saturday in Lincolnville to participants in the April 12 Cystic Fibrosis Walk-a-Thon.
