Dorothy Varenhorst, president of Coronado Country, hosted and presided at a meeting of the tourist promotion organization at Kingfisher’s Inn, Marion County Park & Lake. The 33 delegates present represented 13 towns from Central Kansas. The goal of the organization is to make people in each community aware of local tourist attractions.

The new bridge, or landfill, over Luta Creek in downtown Marion moved another step closer to reality when Ray Wilcox brought plans for the structure to the weekly meeting of the Marion City Commission. Members of the commission agreed with Wilcox that the new bridge will be one of which the community will be proud.

Dr. Robert L. Novak of Lost Springs was elected vice president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association at the annual meeting of that organization held in Topeka Jan. 11.

Employees and patrons of Kingfisher’s Inn at the county lake are suffering from an “empty stump syndrome” since the colorful and artistic metal Kingfisher replica was stolen last week. Thieves ripped the bird from its perch. Bob and Kathy Sprowls would appreciate its safe return.

Linda C. Loney, M.D., St. Louis, Missouri, was elected to the Fellowship in the American Academy of Pediatrics at a recent meeting of the AAP executive board.

Dr. Loney is an instructor of pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine, and instructor in the division of ambulatory pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Loney of Marion.
