Jim Hoch of Marion is one of more than 100 University of Kansas students touring Europe and earning college credit this summer as a participant in KU’s summer language institutes. Hoch is studying in Germany.

Bob Schmidt and Harvey Sanders are pictured as they repair a broken power line in the 300 block of Elm St. Heavy winds caused a limb to come crashing down, taking the line in a shower of sparks and flame. Power was restored only 45 minutes after the break occurred.

This issue’s “Personality Profile” deals with Tom Evert, business administrator of St. Luke Hospital for the Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society of Fargo, North Dakota.

Marion’s cable television system should be fully operational by July 19, according to a report by Paul Edins of Utility Consultants Inc. Edins predicts that the 250 subscribers will double within a couple of years.

Grand opening at the County Seat will be July 14. Prizes to be awarded at a drawing July 29 include a 17-inch Zenith color television set, a 9-by-12-foot Angel carpet, a $50 gift certificate, and a $25 gift certificate.
