At a routine meeting of the Marion City Commission Monday afternoon it was agreed that the ladies of the V.F.W. Auxiliary may have permission to erect a cannon in Central Park if they so desire.

Some 200 or more Marion County 4-H’ers are expected to be here Saturday to participate in the annual 4-H Day. There will a full program of demonstrations, model meetings, talks, musical numbers, dramatics, stunts, and other things in which the 4-H’ers will participate.

A number of Marion friends went to Topeka Saturday for a pleasant outing including dinner and the Hank Thompson stage show. The group included Mr. and Mrs. Dale Christensen, Mrs. Lois Shea, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Klose, Virgil Gooding, and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Seibel.

A clearance sale at Marion Hardware advertises 11.8 cu. ft. GE refrigerator for $159.95, 30-inch GE electric range, $249.95; GE washer, $189.95; GE dryer, $119.95; GE movable dishwasher, $229.95; and a GE chest freezer, $249.95.

High on the county priority list will be a new bridge to replace the old “Red Bridge” over Clear Creek just north of Marion on the Cedar Street road. The old bridge was built well before the turn of the century and has carried heavy traffic for years. County workmen will start soon on the job of replacing it.

Ten Marion Boy Scouts were especially honored at the Court of Honor held Monday evening in conjunction with the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet.

Five First Class scouts who made Star Scout ranking were Lance Alexander, James Mayginnes, Terry Plenert, Raymon Mayginnes, and Charles McElwain.

Five scouts who advanced to First Class Scout were Richard Wiebe, Mark Applegate, Mike Bredemeier, Billy Finke, and Steve Fillipp.
