The grocery store and filling station, operated in conjunction with the West Side Motel and trailer camp, will soon be remodeled and reopened for business. The store, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Newton, was virtually demolished by fire just a year ago and has remained closed ever since.

The Pizza Corner, owned and operated by Mrs. Clyde Smith, is moving from its location in the former Creamery building. It will open Friday in its new location across the street from the northeast corner of the courthouse and behind the William Ward Agency. The door to the business is located on the east side of the building.

Patrick Costello, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Costello, and Ronald Kreutziger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kreutziger, will represent the local American Legion post at Boys State in Lawrence in June. Steven Heinz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Heinz is alternate.

Delegates to Girls State are Carol Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bowers, and Helen Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Jackson. Alternates are Linda Loney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Loney, and Janet Varenhorst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Varenhorst.

The Most Rev. Leo C. Byrne of the Diocese of Wichita will be at Pilsen’s St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church Sunday as main celebrant during a Lenten Jubilee Mass to be concelebrated by 20 priests from the Newton Deanery.

Dick Myers, former member of the state champion Peabody basketball team, is playing on the Texas Western team this year. Basketball fans from this area were especially interested in the playoff game between Texas Western and Oklahoma City University in Wichita Monday night. Texas Western won and will now go to the NCAA regional in Lubbock, Texas.
