The Post Office Department has rescinded its order to close the Pilsen post office as of Jan. 1. It will continue to operate as at present. When word was received several weeks ago that the Pilsen office would be closed Jan. 1 an intensive effort on the part of Pilsen residents and friends to maintain the office was started, and apparently was successful.

M.J. “Blondie” Peterson, who has barbered in Marion since 1920, will close shop on January 1. Two hundred fifty customers have autographed a barber’s shirt that he is shown wearing in a picture accompanying the article about his retirement.

A record number of 125 Marion homes were decorated and lighted this year in observance of the Christmas season. Cash prizes awarded by the Chamber of Commerce from first to 10th place went to Floyd Yaussi, Henry Collett, Ira Newcomer, D.B. Jantz, Albert Bernhardt, Chas. Niederhauser, James F. Meisner, August Hett, Edward Good, and Junior Bredemeier.

Airman First Class Monty C. Frazier, son of Mrs. Maurie Frazier, Marion, has been named Military Air Transport Service Airman of the Month at Travis AFB, California.
