The Main Street building, west of the Marion Bakery and just vacated by the Swift Carpet Co., has been leased as a meeting place and club rooms for the new adult “club” or “organization” called the “Over 50 Club.”

Edward Stenzel received a special certificate and pin for 10 years of service Monday in the county office of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.

Construction of a new dial telephone office to serve Marion is expected to get underway next month. It will be located at the corner of Locust and Lawrence Sts.

Students of Viola Thompson participating in a piano recital at the George Helmer home June 1 were Janel Klose, Janice Jantz, Gina and Gwendolyn Broz, Stanley and Steven May, Jeanne Keazer, Linda and Brenda Helmer, Sandra Turner, Debi Case, Sandra Anderson, Linda and Carol Caselman, Mary Louise and David Rumpel, Donna Helmer, Patricia Warneke, Lenora Rudolph, and John Hoover.

Connie Robertson, 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Robertson of Marion, placed first in the junior division of the Kansas Chicken Cooking contest sponsored by the Kansas Electric Cooperatives. She will receive a Manning-Bowman electric hand mixer.

Hazel Meierhoff was appointed Marion fire chief Monday evening at the regular meeting of the Marion City Commission. Ralph Popp will become the assistant fire chief.
