No action was taken Monday when bids were opened for the construction of the new county welfare office building. The building is to be at the southwest corner of the courthouse grounds.

Edwin G. “Pat” Westerhaus was named this week to the vacancy created on the board of education by the resignation last month of Charles Kjelllin.

Fifth grade Girl Scouts met Oct. 2 and elected these officers: Donna Ewert, chairman; Vickie Boese, scribe; Patsy Wood, treasurer; and Janel Klose, room monitor.

Cecil G. Lalicker, independent geologist from Wichita, told Kiwanis Club members Monday that the future of Marion County in oil and gas production looks great. He estimated gas production would last at least 20 years by conservative estimates.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernhardt were thrilled early this week when they received a telegram stating that Marion Hardware had won first place in a recent General Electric sales campaign. This will entitle them to an all-expense-paid trip to the French Riviera. They will leave early in November.

Two students from Marion are enrolled at McPherson College for the fall term. They are Judith Ann Richards, freshman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Richards, and Ralph Kreutziger, junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kreutziger.
