Keith Just, outstanding Marion High School senior, received one of the most valued scholarships in the Midwest this week — a full, four-year scholarship to play football at the University of Arkansas.

This week saw a series of robberies and break-ins with little gain for the trouble. Forcible entry and burglary were reported in 11 separate instances. Two banks, one store, three schools, and five farm homes were hit. The crime wave was minor in that only in one or two instances were the burglars at all successful.

Announcement is made this week that Saundra’s Bakery, whose main bakery is in Herington, will move a showcase to the Wingerd IGA store. The bakery has lost its lease in the Case building, as the building will be remodeled and the Duckwall store will take over the entire first floor.

Young William Robert (Tommy) Thomas, 11, who had been allowed out to hunt alone for the first time, got a real thrill Sunday when he came upon a good-sized coyote crawling out of a brush pile as he hunted along a hedge row on his grandfather’s farm east of Marion. Tommy took aim with his .38 automatic and caught the coyote dead center between the eyes.
