Hundreds of area youngsters are learning to swim this summer under the guidance of instructors at Marion Municipal Pool. Instructors include John Hoover, Nancy Klenda, Patty Longhofer, Mary Konarik, and Jean Morse. Assistant instructors or “helpers” are Larry Ensey, LaVonda Hett, JoAnn Magee, Barbara Musgrave, Blair Post, and Tom Tucker. Donna Jost is program director.
Double-ring vows were exchanged June 30 by Sharon Kay Youk and Gerald Dean Kelsey. Pastor B.A. Hobratschk heard the vows at Zion Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.
Milford Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hett, recently received his private pilot’s license at Kansas State University in the advanced program of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps. Upon graduation, Hett will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
A dance for teenagers is scheduled for Saturday night at Marion County Lake hall. Music will be by a live orchestra, The Avontes.
On display this week at the Record is one of the largest stalks of rhubarb seen in some time. Grown by Jim Cogdill, it measures 41 inches long and weighs about a pound.
Dean Batt, Lynn Christensen, Bob Musgrave, Rendel Newsom, Leslie Powell, and Ken Rigler attended a Kiwanis picnic Monday evening at Council Grove Lake.
