Much needed improvement was added at the Marion City Building this past week. New modern furniture was bought for the auditorium lobby and the city clerk’s office. A new adding machine also was ordered for use in the clerk’s office.
Charles Gutsch, who is stationed in Japan, received a nice honor recently when he was named “Soldier of the Month” of his unit. The merits of the award consisted of appearance, character, and dependability. Charles is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gutsch.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Collett announce the engagement of their daughter, Shirley Jean, to Mr. David Bowers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bowers, Elmdale. The wedding date has not been set.
Young people who are attending college and are home for the Christmas season include Donna Hobein, Patsy Harris, Jeanne Carpenter, Robert Hein, Jim Garrison, Harold Ehrlich, Winslow Colburn, and Gene Nelson from the University of Kansas, and Jean Muse, Patricia Brose, Betty Williams, Bettie Holmes, Phyllis Larsen, Ruth and Ed McGinness, Suzanne and Mahlon Wheeler, and Bob Reinke from Kansas State Manhattan.
