The city commission this week signed an order with the P-T Air Service of Hays, specialists in aerial spraying work, to completely blanket the approximately 700 acres of Marion City with a DDT solution to save valuable shade trees and for insect control.

Herbert Meier has purchased a privately owned shoe repair shop at the Fort Riley army base. He was at the base last week preparing to take over the business on Friday or Saturday.

Marion County Rural Life Association will present “Aunt Silly” Thursday and Friday in the city building auditorium. The cast is composed of Jean Cleland, Sandra Thiel, Willard Conyers, Nora Zeller, Ernie Holmes Jr., Harry Haas, Mrs. Bud McLinden, Max Dunn, Pauline Best, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Powell.

Work is going forward this week to dredge out and deepen the old river channel just below the city water plant and back of the retention dam. Riddle Quarries is doing the work of removing silt that is impairing the intake for the city water supply.
